Race Night – Saturday, 23rd April 2016
Once again our annual Race Night was a great success. Steve Smith handed the “Glatton Cup” over to this year’s winner Liza Nicholson, whilst Dave Burrows raked in prize monies and, would you believe it, Caroline Sutton won a very large bottle of Gin. Our thanks to Fishey Business for our fantastic fish suppers and, of course, to Dave of Soar Valley Racing who conducted the fab evening.
Glatton’s “Spooky Tree” was well decorated this year and attracted many villagers who enjoyed the hot, spicy Halloween Soup, Halloween cupcakes and jelly sweets. Ava Mclelland correctly counted (or guessed!) that there were 79 bats in the tree and won a £25 Amazon Voucher. Roy & Audrey Knight had a very hard time picking a winner from a dozen competing pumpkins. Eventually they selected the pumpkin carved by the Williams Family earning them a £25 Amazon Voucher, and Barclay Watson was runner up with a cleverly carved owl in his pumpkin (a big tub of Hero’s for Barclay). Barry Watson collected a bottle of English wine for being the closest bat counter under the “bigger kid” category!
Thanks to everyone who participated and to all those who came along.

Glatton Village Fete & Family Fun Day – 30th May 2015
This years event was a combined effort by St Nicholas’ Church, Glatton and Glatton Village Hall. Until now the Fete had been a church undertaking, with last years D-Day Celebrations in June being an exception. The organising committee were determined to make this years event a real fun day for all the family; hence the title Fete & Family Fun Day. The format worked very well with the usual variety of games and food & drink stalls, bouncy castle and even “stocks”!
There was almost continuous activity throughout the afternoon with some hilarious (and frankly rediculous), Celebrity Juice-type games hosted be non other than Keith Lemonade aka, Terry Brignall. Contestants donned a cape and phantom of the opera mask and sung a few lines from the Phantom, aided by a gulp of helium, others put their bare foot into a wellie filled with custard, jelly, feathers, spaghetti, baked beans, rice crispies & milk or any other “yuk” content! It was hilarious to see children competing in the “Space Hopper Grab” game collecting and wearing props along their way. Children took part in a sack race, an egg & spoon race and a Space Hopper race, all proving quite a spectacle and great fun.
Adam, Carl and Teresa Stretton ran a wonderful and very popular “Companion Dog Show” with prizes for “waggiest tail”, “best 4 legs”, “dog most like their owner” and others.
All in all, it was a very pleasant afternoon, aided by lots of warm sunshine, with plenty to eat & drink and lots to watch. Many people took part in the setting up and clearing away for which the organising committee are very grateful. The division of takings was agreed beforehand and after all expenses were deducted, £1,022-48 went to St Nicholas Church and £550-56 went to Glatton Village Hall. A terrific effort all round, very well done to everyone involved but especially to Helen Ford, Jane Jones, Terry Brignall, Owen Williams and Adam and Carl Stretton . Thanks also to Paul Cole for taking and supplying the wonderful photos that capture the spirit and the fun of the day.

Race Night – Saturday, 25th April 2015
It has been said that when Race Night arrives “Glattonians” know that Spring is at last here!
This years event was well attended with sixty six “virtual race goers” enjoying the racing, the bar, a delicious fish & chip supper and a great atmosphere in the company of fellow villagers and a few very welcome guests. The Village Hall made £1,186, up by approximately £300 on last year!
The Cole family surrendered the “Glatton Cup” to this years winners, the Smith Family!
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening but the Village Hall Committee can’t rest for too long as the joint venture with St Nicholas’ Church, Glatton Village Fete & Family Fun Day is just a month away! A big thanks to our Race Night sponsors: The Addison Arms, Besizzled Sausages, High Haden Livery, Tillsons Hire, Paxford Composites and TESAM.
