Below is a letter from Allan Fowler’s Royal British Legion, Sawtry and District Branch Chairman, relating to the effects upon the Legions method of operation for the 2020 Poppy Appeal due to the Covid 19 situation and the fact that there will not be any House to House collections this year. The Poppy Appeal Fortnight commences on Saturday 24th October to 7th November and Remembrance Sunday is on the 8th November.
Just to clarify the Chairmans comment about a stall on GreenEnd Rd, that is of course in Sawtry, just down from the Old Infant School.
The links at the end of the letter, provide means of offering donations, etc. In addition, I am holding a number of 2020 Poppy Lapel Pins and can accept donations for them into a Gift Aid Envelope,on
“Dear Branch Member,
This year’s Poppy Appeal will be different due to Covid-19, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of ways to get involved, wear your poppy with pride and support our Armed Forces community.
Unfortunately, we are unable to go door to door this year however we will have a Poppy Appeal Stall on Green End Rd (you will spot it – look for the Poppy display) on Sat 24th, Sun 25th, Sat 31t October as well as Sun 1st and Sat 7th Nov from 11am – 3pm. If you have any spare change then please visit the Stall and support the local Poppy appeal. (all necessary Covid-19 precautions will be in place)
You can also donate and get your Poppies locally from the following locations: John Greens, Coopers Garage, CARESCO Centre, News Cabin, Best One Store, Sawtry Sports & Social Club, Co-Op Funeral Care.
You can also donate at large supermarkets or get your poppies delivered in the post. Take on a fundraising challenge or Poppy Run. Check out how you can help us make sure this year’s Poppy Appeal is as successful as possible in these unprecedented times.

“Dear Branch member,
This is to inform you that there will not be any Remembrance Day Parade this year due to Covid restrictions.
There will be a reduced outside service at the Sawtry Memorial and there will be a Service in the Church.
Due to restrictions numbers will be severly reduced.
If you wish to attend the outside service can you please send me your details ASAP. You will then go on the list. If this list gets too large then unfortunately I will have to let you know that you can’t attend. Can you please indicate if you wish to attend the outside service & the inside Church Service or outside only or inside only.
You can watch the outside service from inside the Church but you will need to register with the church beforehand (again numbers are reduced). I will send a link once it is known. It is also proposed to stream the who service via zoom for those who are unable to attend.
Sorry that the whole remembrance will not be the same but obviously we need to abide by the restrictions.
